As the dawn breaks

Over roof slates

Hope hung on every washing line

Does your heart ache

Over life’s fate

I know we never had much time

For us to give

We did

As the light creeps over the houses

And the slates are darkened by the rain

In this morning search for meaning

I hear a songbird’s mel-o-dy

A simple songbird’s mel-o-dy

And its singing just for me
