Aware you wept upon your wings

To curse a flight that made the rains drown the height you called home

The ground was safe under a watchful king

You ever want disgrace before the mind you called your own?

You left each lullaby to sing itself to sleep

I never heard my voice becoming mean

And of our earthly things given to their own means

I never raised an open hand to hear you scream

You left your legs entwined to climb above forbidden skies

Arrived silently before the night

And at greater feat you drank each star within your reach

Awake to find the sun in your sight

When last the light and heat had melted off your broken beak

You cried, «Oh why?»

Saved from uncertain fall you clang upon a branch you hugged

In fright, Oh why?

But when its gaze is not mistaken for its rays

You will not climb around the clock until its time comes today
