I came of age as I left

As it was lifted from my chest

Come a rushing winter, came a bird

She was soft, frail and full

And spoke of years spent indoors

But she needs not worry anymore

The ear turned soft by her breath

A pocket-knife beat in her chest

Hearts may race and out pours only sadness

As words spilled warm from her breasts

We’re of plenty for the poor

She said we need not worry anymore

We can take it back

Back when trying was no part of living

Back when the sun was only giving

Back when your eyes were blue on whitest white

'Fore darkness had stolen even one night

Back where loving was not of of weakness

Towards where the hunger is oh so shameless

Back before we became somebody’s mistress

Back when we were our father’s princess
